  • A Lesson about Bill C-15
  • This Bill is about teaching the Government of Canada how to act honourably as a treaty partner and international ally with indigenous nations.
  • The Government of Canada “ must, in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous peoples, take all measures necessary to ensure the laws of Canada are consistent with the Declaration
  • The federal government would be required to ensure that new laws are consistent with the Declaration before they are enacted
  • Legislation is needed because of the complex and often misunderstood relationship between Canadian domestic law and international law.
  • Bill C-15 is currently being debated in the House of Commons. It will be referred to a Parliamentary committee where it will be debated, witnesses will give evidence, and amendments are possible.
